CHIEF & COUNCIL
The Chief and Council play a crucial role in decision-making for the First Nation and its members. Their responsibilities encompass identifying and addressing the needs of the First Nation and its members. Additionally, they set long-term goals and objectives based on the overarching vision of the First Nation. They work diligently to ensure that these objectives guide the operational plans of organizations under Council's purview, including the Administration. The Chief and Council also oversee the maintenance and support of an effective Administration and other staff required to deliver approved programs and services, aligning with the First Nation's needs.
Monitoring the implementation and progress of these programs against the approved operational plans falls within their purview. The Chief and Council demonstrate credible and consistent leadership by establishing clear standards and policies for all employees and Council members to follow. They make critical decisions in a timely manner and set a consistent example as role models for the First Nation, both internally and externally. Furthermore, their role extends to representing the best interests of the First Nation in all external dealings and relationships.
ELECTIONS
The Chief and Council election process involves a two-year term, and they are chosen through votes from the band members. Every two years, electoral officials are chosen to oversee the election process. During this time, candidates are nominated by the voters. On the designated election day, band members cast their votes, after which the votes are counted. Finally, a declaration is made announcing the elected candidates who will serve in the Chief and Council roles for the next two years.
